This work was created as a personal project for the 2018 Martin Luther king jr. Artist contest at Trinity International University. Given the prompt of Freedom I designed this representational piece that is rich in symbolism and contrast. The intention of this work is to show the viewers the effects of freedom vs bondage. I did this by telling the story of Mrs. Freedom, a fictional representation of a woman who breaks the yoke of slavery and finds freedom as she hears the truth of the gospel of Christ and responds in worship. On the left side of the composition, it shows her in a state of bondage. As she is chained by the status quo and the lies of the enemy she is forced to mute the “color” of who she is. On the right side, Mrs freedom lets her hair down, as she realizes who she is in Christ Jesus she raises her hands in worship, embracing her full color. This is reinforced and depicted in the echoing of the truth of Galatians 2:4 and Galatians 5:1 in the background of the freedom side. This work tied for first place and earned a spot in the partnering magazine of the university

As the work gained popularity I was asked to do a revised version as a full spread to open an article on women in art. This version, to be featured in the Mosaic Magazine, is titled “Fully Freed”.
I did a final adaptation of this work on a person project, using it as the opener to a short story called “my colorful curls”.
